This way you are forced to get up to turn off your alarm. Set your alarm clock or phone as far from your bed possible because once you got up to turn it off, you'll be less likely to crawl back into bed.
2. Be realistic with yourself about what time you're going to get up
If you press snooze every 10 minutes you'll get frustrated when you realize you could have just set your alarm for later. Be realistic about what time you want to get up and stick with the plan.
3. Let the light shine in
I used to close my curtains in a way that no light could shine through whatsoever so that I could sleep past sunrise. But I realized that the morning light is telling my body it’s time to get up. Tricking your body into thinking it’s still nighttime may actually be disruptive to your natural sleep cycle.
4. Prepare yourself a bottle of water the night before
After a full night’s sleep, you’ve gone several hours without hydrating, which can lead to fatigue. So start your morning with a bottle of water, infused lemon water or tea. Prepare yourself a nice hydrating drink the night before, this way you won't forget.
5. Have a morning ritual
The best way to become a morning person is to make mornings something you look forward to. When I used to wake up late and have to rush to make it out the door on time, there was nothing to like about mornings. Now, I have enough time to sit and enjoy a cup of tea and a proper breakfast before my day begins.
6. Keep it up
Once you get into the habit of waking up early, try to keep it up. Obviously it’s okay to give yourself a little bit of a break on the weekend, but if you end up sleeping until noon it will be much harder to get back into your good habits the next Monday. Motivate yourself by making plans in the morning.
7. Go to bed earlier
If you are going to be waking up earlier, you should also start going to bed earlier too. But I find that if I wake up early for a couple of days in a row, my body naturally wants to go to bed earlier, in order to get the sleep it needs.
