5 Ways To Fight The Winter Blues

12/2/2016

Woah, how is it December already? I don't know about you guys, but my mood definitely falls as fast as the thermometer does. During winter it gets darker at 4.30PM, the sky turns grey and the temperatures are dropping fast. But there are also a lot of fun things that come with winter, such as burning fires in the fireplace, hot chocolates and of course Christmas! Today I thought I'd share 5 ways to fight those winter blues.

1. Baking
It's no secret that I love to bake. Baking has slowly become one of my favourite hobbies these past few months. It instantly makes me happier, and even more so when my pastries work out better than I had hoped for. I consider it as a little bit of me-time in the kitchen and having those yummy little treats afterwards makes it even better!

2. Go for a walk
Even though I love snuggling up on the couch inside, I also love to put on warm clothes and go outside for a walk in the crisp winter air. Getting a bit of fresh air is a must during winter, because staying in all day isn't that great for your mood. This might seem very simple but during winter you might start to feel claustrophobic after a while, so call your friends or family, take the dog with you if you have one and get outside!

3. Pamper yourself
During winter I like to plan out evenings where lock myself in the bathroom and have a little pamper session. Prepare yourself a nice warm bath, throw in a bathbomb, put on a facemask and relax. After soaking for a little while, get out of the bath and hydrate your skin well, I feel like my skin needs that extra little bit more attention during winter because of the cold outside. Get in your onesie or pyjamas, make yourself a cup of tea and get snuggly to watch your favourite tv show.

4. Activities with friends and family
Call your friends or family and plan some Christmassy, cozy activities. You could go iceskating, go to Christmasmarkets, go for a drink or plan an evening at home for some parlour games. Usually around December there is so much going on in every city, so there are plenty of things you could do!

5. Embrace the season
Winter is beautiful for its own reasons. The sounds of holiday music, the smell of cinnamon and gingerbread, beautiful Christmas decorations everywhere and if we're lucky: white crispy snow. Try to embrace this cozy season and enjoy it while you can.

Yesterday I woke up to -1°C and even though I hate being cold I couldn't help but feel super festive all of a sudden. The fire in our fireplace was burning all day and I made apple & cinnamon cupcakes... instant christmassy vibes for sure! So now that Christmas is coming closer (and I couldn't be more excited) I thought it would be a fun idea to share my Christmas wishlist for this year with you guys, because I like to think that the day it starts getting way colder it is socially acceptable to start shopping for Christmas gifts for our loved ones! :-)

Apple Pie Recipe

11/6/2016

Apple pie is one of my favourite desserts. Most of us associate apple pies with autumn but I think that apple pies know no season so I love to bake these all year around.  Today I wanted to share this yummy recipe as it is the perfect apple pie to me:

- it has a buttery texture
- it has a lot of deliciously sweet and juicy apple pieces
- it is perfect to enjoy with a hot cup of tea
- and even better with a scoop of vanilla icecream

Picture
Ingredients:
- 250 gr melted butter
- 250 gr sugar
- 250 gr flour
- 3 large apples
- 4 eggs

Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Melt the butter in a small pan on low heat. Whisk together the eggs and the sugar for about 10 minutes until it becomes an off-white mixture. Then add the butter and the flour. Cut the apples into small squares and fold them into the batter. Lightly coat a springform baking tin with butter and flour so that the pie won't stick to the baking tin. Spread the batter into the prepared tin and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes.  Let the apple pie cool completely before serving.

Sprinkle some icing sugar on top of the apple pie and voilà: bon appétit!

Autumn Inspiration

Autumn is off to a great start! We have had some cold and rainy days but we were also blessed with some very sunny days, which I love. Wearing a big scarf and a slouchy jumper, sipping hot drinks outside in the crisp air while the sun is shining must be one of my favourite things in autumn. Today I wanted to share this autumn moodboard with you, which I would like to use as an inspiration for this season. Let's get inspired!

Happy Sunday everyone!
